Windows 10 & 11: Install for all users
Download the TTF file from Lipi. Open your Downloads folder, right-click the font file, and select 'Show more options' (on Windows 11) followed by 'Install for all users'.
Selecting 'Install for all users' copies the file to C:\Windows\Fonts and registers it in the system registry, making it accessible to 32-bit, 64-bit, and elevated administrator applications like Microsoft Office and Adobe CC.
- Right-click TTF file > Install for all users
- Restart running desktop applications so they detect the new font face
- In MS Word, choose the font and set it under Font > Complex scripts
macOS: Font Book validation
Double-click the downloaded .ttf file to launch Apple Font Book. Click 'Install' to validate the font tables and activate it in macOS.
To type in Kannada across macOS apps, navigate to System Settings > Keyboard > Text Input > Input Sources, and add 'Kannada QWERTY'.
Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch)
Copy downloaded TTF fonts into ~/.local/share/fonts/kannada/ and run 'fc-cache -fv ~/.local/share/fonts/' in the terminal to rebuild the Fontconfig cache.
Verify the installation using 'fc-list : family | grep -i kannada'. The font is immediately ready for LibreOffice, GIMP, and Inkscape.
